Día Por DíaThe Día Por Día Outpatient Substance Abuse Treatment Program, operating since 1990, was designed specifically to address an identified deficiency of treatment programs for Hispanics in the area. To date, it is one of a very few recognized local bilingual outpatient treatment program. Día Por Día conforms to a biopsychosocial model based on the twelve step philosophy: substance abuse is not curable, but it is treatable with intervention. Typically, a treatment plan consists of twelve (12) weeks, in which clients receive one hour of individual counseling a week and two hours of group counseling (one hour therapy, one hour education.) However, given the diversity in client presentations, each client is fully assessed as an individual, and the subsequent treatment plan reflects focus on the individual’s needs and problem areas. Other aspects of the program include crisis intervention and/or appropriate referral, case management, community support, and aftercare. A vital activity provided by the program is outreach: lectures and presentations on an array of alcohol-and-other-drug-related topics are available to churches, schools, community-based organizations, health fairs, etc. Día Por Día presently serves a diverse population, ranging greatly in age, gender, and ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Participants are both voluntary and court-ordered for treatment. With three (3) counselors, the treatment program presently serves approximately 150 regular participants. Program outreach surpasses 500 people per year. Funding for this program is provided through Jackson County's COMBAT Initiative, The Greater Healthcare Foundation, and The United Way.
