Plaza de Niños

Plaza de Niños is a year-round preschool located in the Westside community, serving children aged two to five. Our primary goal is to provide a bilingual kindergarten readiness program designed to enhance the areas of social competence, cognitive skills, language, physical development, and positive self-direction.

Head Start Program

Head Start is Federal program for preschool children from low-income families. The Head Start program is operated by local non-profit organizations in almost every county of Missouri. Children who attend Head Start programs participate in a variety of educational activities. Head Start helps all children succeed. Services offered meet the special needs of children with disabilities. Most children served by Head Start are between the ages of three to five. Head Start also provides comprehensive social services. These bilingual services are available to the all families of children attending Plaza de Niños.

The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accredits Plaza de Niños Preschool. NAEYC Accreditation means that your child’s program meets 10 standards of excellence in early childhood education. Programs that meet these standards provide a safe and healthy environment for children, have teachers who are well trained, have access to excellent teaching materials, and work with a curriculum that is culturally sensitive, appropriately challenging and developmentally sound. These programs are continuously improving themselves to provide the best possible educational opportunities for children.

Plaza de Niños Preschool implements the Creative Curriculum. The philosophy of this curriculum is that young children learn best by doing. Learning is not just repeating what someone else says; it requires active thinking and experimenting to find out how things work and learn firsthand about the world we live in.

This program receives funding from city, state, and other sources such as United Way. Plaza de Niños provides quality childcare at an affordable rate. Plaza de Niños serves over 120 families a year.
