Youth Programs

YouthNet

Guadalupe Center is also a founding member of YouthNet, a collaboration of twenty-one youth service agencies whose program components include outreach, counseling, and activities. The goal of YouthNet is to influence high-risk youth so that they avoid substance abuse, gang involvement, and stay in school.

Arts & Crafts

The Youth Program also encourages arts and crafts as a leisure activity. In cooperation with Mattie Rhodes Counseling and Art Center, youth learn woodworking, painting, leatherworking, and jewelry making. By developing artistic skills, youth not only gain a hobby, but build self-confidence.

Youth Clubs

Youth clubs such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts are constructive after school and summer activities that instill moral and positive values and provide social, educational, cultural, and recreational activities for youth 13 and under.

Summer Enrichment Program

The Summer Enrichment Program, designed to supplement the regular school year, is an eight week, full day program for children ages five through thirteen. Program participants benefit from field trips, structured activities, educational tutoring, and nutrition.

Field Trips

Field trips sponsored by the program are both entertainment and education oriented. For entertainment, youth have loaded the bus for trips to Worlds of Fun, Royals' games, Wizards games, Lake Jacomo, and ice skating just to name a few. Educational and cultural excursions have included the Nelson-Atkins Museumof Art, the Agricultural Hall of Fame, the Renaissance Festival, and the KU Museum of Natural History.

Special Events

A variety of special events are held for youth, high school age and younger. These activities include seasonal youth dances, social and cultural events such as Cinco de Mayo, Día de los Muertos, and Christmas activities.
